Up until that point, Joe Biden had confirmed repeatedly that he did not possess the constitutional authority to extend the eviction moratorium that the Center for Disease Control promulgated last year under President Trump, and that the CDC had renewed back in June. Asked on Monday whether the White House could restore the policy, Gene Sperling told reporters that “the President has “not only kicked the tires, he has double, triple, quadruple checked,” and he has found each time that he cannot. Moreover, Sperling confirmed, Biden had “asked the CDC to look at whether you could even do targeted eviction moratorium – that just went to the counties that have higher rates – and they, as well, have been unable to find the legal authority...” Speaking at his press conference Tuesday, Biden reiterated these findings. “The bulk of the constitutional scholarship,” Biden conceded, “says it’s not likely to pass constitutional muster,” as, he noted, did the Supreme Court, which ruled in June that the scheme “exceeded its existing statutory authority” and could not be extended without explicit congressional approval. But, Biden said, he had decided he was going to do it anyway – if just to exploit the time it would take before the judicial branch struck it down. ]

Relying on a public health law intended to prevent the spread of an illness, the Trump administration said Tuesday it is implementing a national four-month moratorium on residential evictions.

One of the few major mistakes Trump made during the pandemic was giving all that power to the CDC because of the pandemic. I don't think he realized that the CDC is no different than any other government agency. Once you give more power to unelected buearucrats, it's very hard to take it away.

Bottom line is that the moratorium was intended to be temporary, like masks.

The fourth turning you speak of imo is just another term for the US and other countries losing their collective minds and turning away from the principles and the Constitution that made this country so uniquely amazing. It's the willful handing over of power and choices to the few people at the top. It's just the opposite of what much wiser people before us intended for this country. If that's what is part of your fourth turning, then I agree, it's happening and too many people are watching it happen without pushing back against it. I am not now, nor will I ever be one of those people.

President Biden just declared that millions of Americans have got their jobs back since he has been in office. So he can now cancel the eviction moratorium!
