Since Colorado went to an open primary system, a group of Republicans have wanted to cancel their primaries. They are worried a bunch of Democrats and unaffiliated will taint their elections, by possibly electing more moderate candidates. Gamesmanship? I think they might be overthinking this. They might nominate their "perfect" candidate but he/she might lose the general because they are too far right. Plus primary battles can help increase donations and press for the candidates.
