Internal State Department Cable Warned of Kabul Collapse

This was no surprise, someone wasn't listening:

WASHINGTON—An internal State Department memo last month warned top agency officials of the potential collapse of Kabul soon after the U.S.’s Aug. 31 troop withdrawal deadline in Afghanistan, according to a U.S. official and a person familiar with the document.

The classified cable represents the clearest evidence yet that the administration had been warned by its own officials on the ground that the Taliban’s advance was imminent and Afghanistan’s military may be unable to stop it.

The cable, sent via the State Department’s confidential dissent channel, warned of rapid territorial gains by the Taliban and the subsequent collapse of Afghan security forces, and offered recommendations on ways to mitigate the crisis and speed up an evacuation, the two people said.

Confirmation bias? The Bidens only trusted the reports that were positive.

How soon we forget.....the ORIGINAL SIN was NOT connecting the dots by Intell under Bush. 9/11/2001
happened because ALL OF THE fragmented depts. were not communicating with each other, there
were HUNDREDS of hints,M.E. decedents taking pilot lessons and only wanting to know how to take off,
one way tickets,NO LUGGAGE from foreigners of the M. E. , "chatter" INCREASED volume from known
terrorists, OBL vowing the "Allah'' would be gracious and gave thanks.... hints that WERE relayed but
NOT FOLLOWED up on....hundreds of them. NOT taking OBL seriously, but rather thinking it was rhetoric

Second guessers like to spin this tale, but there is always intelligence chatter. Middle East terrorist groups and dictators like to make big threats but if you shut down the ports and airports every time someone made an empty threat, you would ruin the economy. Remember when Saddam was promising the Mother Of All Bombs?

Look at it this way HA... when we were kids, we only got a blue ribbon if we got first place in the race. For some reason our society thought that was unfair and that every kid should get a blue ribbon or some kind of reward, even if that kid was mediocre at best.

In the end, it doesn't matter how many awards one gets, all that should matter is how you perform when it really matters. Milley was either lying when he said they didn't expect the Taliban to take down Kabul so quickly, or he wasn't aware that the Taliban was taking over city after city at record speed. Either way he's a failure. Here's a little something I found from Wiki, haven't had time to verify:

Milley was also the architect of then-President Donald Trump's future peace talks with Taliban that would be held at Camp David.[92][93] However following the new administration of President Joe Biden, Milley appeared to suggest that it would be a mistake to leave Afghanistan and that doing so could lead to Taliban take-over, casting doubt on how the Taliban and the Afghan government under President Ashraf Ghani could unite.[93][91] An opinion article on the The New York Post criticized Milley for making a contrary decision during two different administrations, supporting peace talks with the Taliban during one administration and later opposing them in another.[91][93]

I've been reading and watching all the left wing news sources and even they are not diverting to Trump. You're pretty much alone in your deflections... time to move on and look at reality.
