Why? It is the largest increase in a year ever. The previous largest increase was 12% in 1968. Some speculation, mental disease increasing after months of lockdown. Police being told to stand down during BLM/ANTIFA riots. Police choosing to limit presence in the field because of fears they will be prosecuted and jailed. Police not feeling that their city government supports them. Your guesses? There are some signs it will be much better next year, big cities are raising wages for cops, and are more supportive. Fewer lockdowns probably decrease domestic issues.

I doubt very seriously the murder rate is going to go back to "normal". Thanks to Democrats and the worthless media propaganda machine, police officers are no longer able to protect the cities that need it the most. Thanks to the left's false narrative of ' systematic racism', black Americans are once again the victims of the stupidity and lies pushed by really stupid people.
The only good thing I see coming from this travesty is that black Americans will surely start to understand how the left has been destroying their futures for decades and will hopefully escape from that plantation of stupidity.

You're not alone in your unwillingness to address the unprecedented rise in murders HA, your media doesn't want to touch it either because they would have to take some ownership in how the police have been unfairly demonized and defunded. The media would have to mention all these liberal mayors and governors who have decided to let criminals go because of pressure from the hard left idiots. They would have to look at the cities who have defunded their police or have just forced cops to quit because of the lack of support. So yeah HA, I completely understand why you wouldn't want to talk about any of this because the solution would be to replace all the people who caused this problem, all who just happen to be Democrats.

I know if I was a police officer in a large city, I would be real tempted to do the minimum until I got my pension. Or seek a job in a smaller jurisdiction that supports the police better.

Yes, U have mention SOME,but the totality of the mental toll is immense. When U back an animal into
a corner with no exit,U see the rage and resistance to the "confrontation"/threat. Mental, physical,emotional
psyche is distorted and diminished.....so the adage "desperate times,calls for desperate measures" becomes,almost,a mantra. I keep comparing us to sealife,that will continue to "beach themselves"(even tho
heroic acts are performed to save them.) The instinct to "end it" or exit from the intolerable is the same.
We have hit overload and are reacting to an intolerable existence. JMO
