A horrible story came out this weekend about a 400K experiment with Beagles was linked to the embattled public face of Covid-19. The Beagles had their heads placed in bags filled with biting insects and were left there until they died in agony. The dog's vocal cords had been removed so that they wouldn't distress the scientists running the study.
When I was in university, they were experimenting on Beagles on campus. You could hear their howls in the basement. I know students tried to organize to ban this animal testing but I don't think they were successful.
