To me this will always come down to a cost/benefit analysis. If China and other big polluters are going to continue growing their economies with cheaper and more efficient fuel while we bury ourselves in debt trying to do our part, we will hand over our "superpower" to the biggest threat to human rights the planet has ever seen. We won't have to worry about buying any electric vehicles because we will have willingly bankrupted ourselves. I would love to see someone lay out the real costs for us to go green, then show a scenario of how we could afford those costs, then show how much of an impact that sacrifice would make on the earth's temperature. If the temperature drop is inconsequential, I could see tens of millions of people dying because economic sanity was ignored for the sake of being globally virtuous.

I really don't think there is anyone at that climate summit who truly understands how fragile the world economy is right now and what the real threat to the human race really is.
