Interesting topic SC. I'm going to address this topic by just giving you my personal beliefs and observations which don't require specific sources. I'll start with this quote and later bounce around to other stuff I've been thinking about lately and I'd like you to tell me where I'm wrong.
The key difference between science and its pretenders is this: Whereas science is an objective search to understand and explain the natural world, science’s pretenders are motivated by their desire to protect cherished beliefs.
This quote presumes that scientists don't have cherished beliefs... it suggests that scientists only believe what they can prove 100% with indisputable evidence. We are to believe that unlike most humans, scientists are always ok with being wrong and will admit it the instant conflicting facts are discovered. While I respect the profession, I don't believe that scientists are above human nature. I believe scientists have biases, can be liars, and can also be motivated by factors like money, power, and notoriety.
I know you don't agree with me about Fauci, but it's because of him and some scientists in his orbit that are destroying the public trust. When a scientist is wrong time after time and then says that if you criticize him you are criticizing science, that's a statement that only narcissist and power hungry fool would say, not a scientist who's goal is to understand and explain the natural world.
Fauci lied about funding the Wuhan lab and his knowledge about the gain of function research they were doing. He's been wrong almost every time he's opened his mouth, which fit in well with the political class that he is now part of.
Bottom line for me is it all comes down to public trust and one man has done a good job of destroying that trust.
None of the sources you've ever listed as 'trusted' included CNN or MSNBC, but those two places are where Fauci shares most of his opinions. His statements are NEVER challenged by the people who give him that microphone. The only place he was ever challenged was in congress by Republicans. The American people pay this man more money than the POTUS and he will receive a 350k a year pension when he should instead be investigated and removed from his position. He won't be removed because to remove him would be to admit that the cherished beliefs or the media and the left were wrong, and we know how often journalists and politicians admit being wrong, (Russia collusion, Avenati, peaceful protests, insurrection, Cuomo(s), immigration, crime, law enforcement, economic policy etc, etc...)
I think most Americans are craving truthful scientists, journalists, and politicians and if we don't start getting the whole truth I think this new politicized science trend is going to continue the erosion of trust in those institutions. If we want to find solutions to our problems, there must be trust above all else.
I'll try not to talk about Fauci again because I have a lot of other issues with the way COVID has been handled as well as climate change solutions.
