41 House Members Won't Seek Re-election

29 Democrats so far and 11 Republicans. Redistricting eliminated some easy districts, probably why Perlmutter made his decision.
But part of the reason for Democrat retirements is because they think the Republicans will win the House back. So many of the choice committee assignments will be given to GOP members. The latest retirement is a 32 year House member from Nashville who has been in that seat for most of his life. It will be good to see a bunch of new blood in the lower chamber.
Why do they think Republicans will win? Because of President Biden's lousy poll numbers.

Normally about 10% retire every two years, many are 1st termers who didn't realize how much of their job is fundraising, and then the older members who have been there way too long.

Pelosi needs to retire so the there's nobody in the way of the radicals that are hell bent on destroying that party.... the sooner the better.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Another factor concerning retirements is that the democrats are going to lose the House and therefore committee chairmanships will be lost. Recall the large number of Republican congressmen that retired once the Republicans limited their period of chairmanship

Exactly. Losing your power in the House is a big incentive to seek retirement. You could even have a scenario where the Democrats lose seats in 2022 and lose even more in 2024.
