I think I understand what you're saying. We used to say the same thing about people in the metro area when I lived in Conifer back in the 70's. Then later the metro moved to the mountains and I moved out. I'm currently looking for a sanctuary away from the madness, but sadly there are no areas truly safe from the woke ideology... it's just a matter of time.

Unfortunately,JEREMIAH JOHNSON and LEGENDS OF THE FALL r just fantasy films.....that way of life is LONG gone. Even the northern villages in the Arctic circle have snow machines and sat phones.
I disagree. I have an old commercial fishing buddy who lives in a remote area of Kodiak that you can only get to by boat or plane. I get a letter from him once a year around Christmas and he and his wife have no phone. My wife would never go for that because we have kids, but I do envy him at times.

KODIAK, now there is a truly picturesque piece of Alaska...I was there for one summer BEFORE the 64 earthquake.....THAT toasted the town with a tsunami. I remember when u went to the diners to grab a bite,
crab cocktail glasses brimming with crab were ALWAYS on the table, like when u get a bowl of nuts or chips
at a bar.
How often does he fly into Anchorage's Costco? My ex sister law's husband had an air service company, flying mail, cargo to the bush....SERVANT AIR served Kodiak for awhile until he slammed into the mountain in a storm.....(NEVER second guess a storm). It folded shortly after that.
Kodiak is really an amazing place with very mild winters. He only has a 32ft fishing boat (salmon seiner) and a sport boat but no plane. The town of Kodiak has a couple decent grocery stores so he rarely leaves the island except when he needs major medical. I don't think he ever buys meat since it's all around him, land and sea.
He's off grid but Kodiak gets most of it's power from wind turbines because it's one of those places that always has some sort of breeze. When I lived there the power came from big diesel generators which they still have for backup I'm sure. Kodiak's population also doubled since I was the mid 80's and now has about 6000 residents.

I went to Alaska in 1997 and returned in 2019. The coastal towns were unrecognizable. So built up In that time period. Talked to a retired Coast Guard who served there in the 60's and he said it had changed even more for him. Maybe go to the Alaskan interior or the Yukon territory if you don't mind being a Canuck.
