The House's existing dress code defined proper attire for women as "dresses or skirts or slacks worn with a blazer or sweater and appropriate dress shoes or boots," according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. It also had rules about men's clothing, though no one sought to update them this week.

I am RELIVING the 50s and early 60's and I AM PRETTY PISSED.....WTF, we r concerned about clothing, when the government should be concerned about containing China, climate change, debt ceiling.??

The men's dress code has been established after centuries. Women are becoming more common in the Tennessee Statehouse so new rules need to be established for them.

Example, this year there are more women than men in the Colorado Statehouse. Big difference than the days when women were less than ten percent.

So you can decide if this is repression, or if it is just updating the dress code to reflect the increasing power of women politicians.

What is the Missouri House of Representatives supposed to do regarding containing China? Did you read the article that you referenced?

Controlling what you wear is a proxy for controlling what you do,” Hyland writes in this examination not only of fashion but also of sartorial life more generally. Hyland finds meaning in what we wear, FROM THE BOOK DRESS CODE

r bolo ties acceptable for men?...doesn't seem appropriate to me....THIS is called control, just like banning the rx for abortion pill....(which is being ;looked at as we speak.....no mail orders, can not dispense from pharmacy.)

You can think that way if you want, but I went to schools that required uniforms and had a dress code. I believe it helped the students concentrate on their classes.
And even the new Pennsylvania senator showed up to the Capitol in a suit and tie instead of the shorts and hoodies he campaigned in.

Probably because the Senate chamber has a dress code for both men and women.
