Dominion Vs. Fox Network Lawsuit

17 Apr 2023 10:09 #1 by FredHayek
The 1.6 billion dollar suit trial Dominion has against the conservative news network has been delayed by a day as the two sides negotiate an out-of-court settlement. Fox seems to think a very public trial would be embarrassing and they might lose this libel suit. Will a billion dollar check convince Dominion to go away?

I don't know if money will make the plaintiff go away. The suit, however, opens Pandora's box. Fox is being sued because individuals, expressing their opinions were felt to be actionable against the outlet, i.e. FoxNews.
This precedent would make, foremost, news outlets responsible for the opinions of others expressing their First Amendment rights.
Consider this, the number of suits against gun manufacturers, automobile companies will now have a leg to stand on when sued for the actions of parties that purchased their products legally. Why not the steak knife manufacturer when missy stabs hubby:?

In any case, regardless of the ruling in the lower court it will be appealed on up to the Supreme Court.
