he task force was established in 2020 by state lawmakers and Governor Gavin Newsom, who directed the force's nine members to study how California's history of slavery and racial discrimination has harmed Black residents and to recommend cash payments that would restore justice to them.

Although the calculations for each eligible resident vary depending on racial harms, which include over-policing, housing discriminations, and business devaluations, among other factors, as well as the length of time they've lived in California, estimates range from $2,300 to $77,000 per person.

"In California, what we are looking at is everything from Jim Crow racism and discrimination up through contemporary issues with political disenfranchisement, mass incarceration, ongoing threats against Black communities over policing," task force member Jovan Scott Lewis previously told Newsweek. "So, in a way what we're talking about is a series of harms that are identified as the lingering effects of slavery."

Slavery was never legal in California. It came into the Union as a free state.

So if this passes, California will not have enough money to pay reparations. Will the US taxpayer have to bail them out?

And will this encourage African-Americans to emigrate to the West Coast? Might really upset the electoral balance of the whole nation if millions of Blacks flee purple states.

THIS is the basis for this tumultuous topic.....REFLECT on the reality of our wrongful behavior.

Some are exquisite condemnations from learned and accomplished men who escaped their enslavement. Some are brief queries, shots in the dark, dictated by illiterate women. One is brilliant sarcasm, humorously calculating and requesting back wages.

All of these letters from Black Americans to the people who once controlled their lives show a desire for freedom and a desperate longing to be reunited with their families.

Three of these five letters were written by formerly enslaved people directly to their onetime enslavers. One was addressed to President Abraham Lincoln, who had the power to emancipate its author and had so far withheld it. One was written by a still-enslaved woman desperately searching for her daughter.

Racist Governor Newsom has canceled the reparations program that wasn't going to pay off the former slaves of California but instead would just pay African-Americans who happen to be currently living there.
