But far-right Republicans are still pushing to prevent unaffiliated voters — who make up the largest share of Colorado’s electorate — from weighing in on GOP primaries. Proponents of opting out are worried that Democrats are registered as unaffiliated voters and casting ballots for weaker candidates in GOP primaries.

Colorado GOP Chairman Dave Williams, whose campaign to lead the party earlier this year hinged largely on his support of blocking unaffiliated voters from participating in Republican primaries, said he hasn’t taken a position on the amendment.

“This is a clever attempt to make an impossible 75% threshold be possible to meet,” Williams told The Colorado Sun. “I won’t be advocating from the chairman’s podium. That’s not appropriate.”

If an "independent" voter has that amount off interest in who the Republican candidate for an office should be, then that "independent" should register as a Republican.

Exactly! If you want to vote in the Republican primaries and caucuses, membership in the party should be mandatory.

But the modern Left wants to give the vote to illegal aliens just because they are residents in a voting district. Don't they understand rules?

You don't get to vote who is on the board of Apple unless you have stock. And if you can't be bothered to even register as a Republican, you shouldn't be voting in Republican elections.

Why is this so hard to understand? In Colorado, it is very easy to join and switch parties.

OH BUT, here is the true term defined......
What does independent mean free dictionary?
1. Not governed by a foreign power; self-governing. 2. Free from the influence, guidance, or control of another or others; self-reliant: an independent mind.

Very simple with regard to politics.
An independent, as defined by the State of Colorado, is someone who is not affiliated with any of the registered political parties. One can have an independent mind but if he/she wishes to participate in a particular party I feel that one would register as such.
BTW, if an independent votes in the Republican primary, can that individual also participate in the democrat, Libertarian , Socialist, etc, primaries?
