Jordan came up short in an initial vote on Tuesday as 20 of his fellow Republicans and all 212 Democrats voted against him. Some of his Republican critics predicted that opposition could increase by five to 10 Republicans in a second ballot.

The House went into recess after failing to elect a speaker again. A Jordan spokesman said Jordan would pursue a third ballot.

I believe it took McCarthy 15 different votes (or something close to that) World didn’t come to an end. Again, I wish this was in the top 100 of this country’s problems.

It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers−out of unorthodoxy
