When exactly did it happen? Remember the liberals of the 60's that had distrust of the government system, including the FBI? They used to be much different... I know my parents were, and they too transformed into the new liberal/progressive that actually wants more government control and is easily convinced to do what the government wants him to do.
The media changed, so maybe that's it. The media has always been more to the left, but today there is only 3.7% of journalists that identify as Republican. With that kind of balance, it's not hard to imagine how their power could lead minds into one direction or another. The media is just another big money machine and it only survives if it can attract eyes and eyes, so it will always search for bait that pulls people in. Over time the people become comfortable with the narrative they've been fed and then become addicted to it.

EASY question...Sept. 11, 2001 altered EVERYTHING, people wanted security (perceived) over freedom. The government's free pass to run amok. Trusting the government , so that we could continue our illusion of being out of harm's way..
