Divest/Ban Tik Tok

The House voted to divest/ban Tik Tok today. Huge bipartisan majority.

A few MAGA Republicans voted against this. (Supposedly Trump has friends who are huge investors in the media platform. A ban would hurt them, but forcing China to sell the company might help them.) AOC also voted against the ban.

Some conspiracy types are worried that if the Feds start the precedent of going after social media, it might be used to censor sites like Truth Social and Twitter.

Personally I think that ship has already sailed. Meta was just called before Congress for not doing enough to protect young people.

Huge numbers support the ban. This has my spidey sense tingling. Usually it takes both parties together to really screw something up.

My concern with the banning of Tik Tok is that the government is censoring and controlling avenues of information. We saw what was done during the Covid period with the shadow banning and out right banning of the signers of the Great Barrington Declaration.
I do not use Tik Tok, can't think of a reason to do so but if someone should tell me of a subject of particular interest to me that was on Tik Tok I would want to avail myself of its content.
Other than Rep. Massie, Sen. Paul, to name a few, are there no voices in support of the 1st Amendment in D.C.?

I feel the same way Fred. These people don’t do anything that could limit their power. Having a limit on their power over social media platforms isn’t a good long term strategy. They were able to greatly influence the 2020 election by forcing the burial of Hinter’s laptop, which would have made a big difference in how many people in the middle voted for crime boss Biden.

It was always the women, and above all the young ones, who were the most bigoted adherents of the Party, the swallowers of slogans, the amateur spies and nosers−out of unorthodoxy

Or just update this old law to social media platforms.
