When signing up for the service, about 80% of 23andMe’s customers have opted in to having their genetic data analyzed for medical research. “This rate has held steady for many years,” Kill added.
I NEVER ever considered giving my DNA to any source......those who do, have NOT THOUGHT IT THRU TO THE END. (I am not a sheep).
After my second cancer I had a genetic test done and it found that I have Lynch disease, a mutated gene that makes it more likely for me to have one or more cancers... I'm holding steady at 3 now after finding skin cancer on my ear.
I think it depends on what your goal is with the test.

Within that situation,it would be understandable.....TWO cancers certainly would be suspect. The problem is within the article's question....WHAT IS DONE WITH THE DATASBASE? The guard rails r not in place,in a
CONCRETE WAY. It is the same with A.I. usage in the medical community.(I KNOW,thru personal experience)......23 and Me is in deep trouble and their database holds many opportunities to make $$$$.
I’m not sure what someone would do with my DNA other than frame me for a crime… I’m much more concerned about companies like Google who have much more information and are a greater threat to our freedom and “democracy”, if we actually lived in a democracy.
There are always going to be people at the top of every organization t he at use our personal info for their own gain.
THE VERY FIRST BUYER??? Health insurance companies,r u a "good" risk or r u so unhealthy that they
will NOT sign u up because u r a money drain......(now or in the future, your DNA will decide many things, things that should not have been disclosed.)
The US used to have laws against genetic testing. They were worried employers would deny candidates for job openings if they saw there was a substantial risk for health problems in their history. This law must have been changed.
