Presidents don’t have much of an effect on all that, though, in part because they usually don’t make major changes to economic policy, said Michael Strain, director of economic policy for the right-leaning American Enterprise Institute. “I definitely think presidents get too much blame and too much credit,” he said.

Trump and Republicans did pass tax cuts that had a small effect on boosting the economy, said Diane Swonk, the chief economist with the accounting firm KPMG.

But when Trump imposed tariffs on hundreds of billions of dollars’ worth of Chinese goods — he wanted to bring manufacturing back to the United States — it actually raised prices. “Pretty much everyone agrees the trade war inflicted a lot of pain to the economy,” The Washington Post’s Heather Long wrote at the time, adding, “Trump’s actions amounted to one of the largest tax increases in years.”

(SO-O-O......there u have it.......STOP the stupid stance of who's started the fire.......)
The economy hit a brick wall in 2020, when the pandemic forced nearly everything to close. Trump, along with Republicans and Democrats in Congress, injected trillions into the economy to keep it from going up in flames.

Tariffs have always increased prices. Everyone knows that.
Tariffs aren't meant for consumers. They are meant to protect businesses.

Especially when countries like China price products below their actual manufacturing costs in order to drive American companies out of business.

Personally I support Tariffs that keep Chinese cars off our roads. Europe has also prevented Chinese self driving and EV cars off their roads.

Yes, I won't be able to buy a $10,000 substandard Chinese vehicle. Do you want them next to you in traffic? Especially the self driving ones that the Chinese military can control?

HA, you seem to be a little confused. The pandemic didn’t close businesses and the pandemic didn’t try to force people to take an experimental “vaccine”… that was primarily the tyrants in your party.

Hmmm... Let's see. When did Covid hit the U.S.? Oh, yeah, March 2020. Now, see if I can remember who was president at that time. Oh, yeah, trump was, right? He was the guy who shut down the country, put us in lockdown, etc etc etc.

Wow. Those magic memory erasing MAGA pills really work, don't they?

The DNC claims 2.5% growth is a record economy under Biden/Harris.
It isn't. It is about the average in growth for the past decade.

Remember politicians lie, especially right before elections.

He didn't shut down the economy. Fauci and state governors did. Remember when Polis closed bars, restaurants and liquor stores K?
Or did your long Covid-19 cause memory loss?

Wait..... So you're telling me that trump was so powerless he couldn't overrule Fauci and state governors? Wow. I didn't know trump was a powerless weenie that couldn't even take care of the U.S. citizens.

Unlike Democrat nightmare scenarios, the American President is not a dictator. Since 1789, we have had checks and balances to constrain the different branches of government.
Didn't your teachers educate you on this? Or were you sleeping in class? Or did the teacher's union fail your generation?

So you admit that trump was powerless to overrule Fauci. Got it.

Once again you are putting words in my mouth.
Maybe he mistakenly trusted Fauci to do what is best for America?
He did decide to let the states make the decisions on what they wanted to shutdown. And for how long.

Remember how fast Colorado and Denver repealed the closing of liquor stores? :coffeenews: Less than 24 hours after it was declared.
