Staffing levels at the airport’s control tower have been below adequate levels for years, like many of the U.S.’s other airports. DCA’s tower only had 19 fully certified controllers as of September 2023, according to congressional reports. This is well below the FAA and air traffic controller union’s preferred number of 30, and is due to employee turnover and budget cuts, according to the Times.
As a result, many air controllers at the airport work up to 10 hours a day and six days a week. Those levels probably have not been helped by Donald Trump’s federal hiring freeze, his gutting of the Aviation Security Advisory Committee, and the FAA chief’s resignation at Elon Musk’s behest. As much as Trump and the right might try to blame DEI or something else ludicrous, perhaps they should look in the mirror.
see link on pushing tin thread.......POTUS IS PLACING BLAME IN THE WRONG PLACE.....WAKE UP SHEEP
One of my friends was an air traffic controller who was forced to retire at 62. He wanted to stay on. Time to bring back retired for a year until new trainees are online?
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
So, staffing has been below adequate levels for years... huh. Wouldn't that be a problem that a transportation secretary would be interested in fixing? So that problem doesn't seem to be Trump's fault if our Rear Admiral Bootygig was in charge of that department for the last 4 years.
As for Trump's presumption that this was caused by a DEI hire... who knows, it could be. The point is, this country has been hiring people based on race, skin color, gender, sexuality, and any other characteristics that matter F##k all in 99.9% of jobs.
Lets say we have two airports that are pretty much identical with the same kind of layout and similar amount of traffic. Airport A only hires the most trained and the highest scoring applicants, and pays them well because of those facts. Airport be has a DEI department that fills positions by choosing people based on identity first and ability second (like Kamala Harris).Using your common sense, which airport will be the most likely to have a catastrophic accident?
I'm not saying that's why the accident happened, but this DEI bullshit is the worst way to advance a society. Would you want a surgeon working on you that beat out several more talented surgeons because they were white men and didn't check the boxes? No, you absolutely would not.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
PER BLACK HAWK PILOT.....this chopper had ONLY a 180 degree view of the sky, because there were minimal crew of 3, u need 4 to observe ENTIRE SKY TRAFFIC, this chopper was a "taxi" for the VIPS AND CONGRESS PERSONNEL and they want more air access for traveling back and forth to capitol and their residence...(commuting chopper)....the sky can not accommodate MORE commuters...unless the controllers r increased and THAT is part of the problem....also this craft was flying in wrong area space 350 feet, it should have been at about 200 or 250 per BLACK HAWK PILOT. (unrelated to the incident).....MANY
factors to accumulate for a COMPLETE PICTURE..NTSB REPORT OUT IN ABOUT 30 DAYS....THEN WE HAVE ANSWERS.....as usual, lots of false facts floating around....the mob boss at his best.
Laurie Garrow, a professor and director of the Air Transportation Lab at Georgia Tech, agrees.
"It does appear that [the Black Hawk pilot] thought he had sight on the aircraft, but there were multiple aircraft in the area. And it may be that he had sight on a different aircraft. So I don't think he was aware that he was in the flight path of this American Eagles flight or maneuvered to avoid a different one," she surmised.
Garrow described the airspace above D.C. as "lanes in the sky that you need to stay [in]."
"In DC, those lanes are very narrow because we have a lot of buildings that are close by the airport. So when you take off, you have to climb at a certain altitude or do some very quick turns to be able to avoid the tall buildings and also sensitive areas," she explained. "You can't fly over the
