The other countries use tariffs to help their producers compete with countries that have better and lower cost products. We need our producers back, so now we have to do what other counties do to us. Democrats aren’t smart enough to figure this out.

And why would Canada, Mexico, and others raise tariffs in response if doing so was harmful to their citizens? That's the part the collectivists never want to explain . . . how the US raising its tariffs is harmful to US citizens but Canada, Mexico, and others raising tariffs in response doesn't harm their citizens.
What’s the ultimate solution to a tariff war? We raise, they raise, we raise…. Eventually both sides realize the answer is to just eliminate tariffs on both sides. Tariffs work when one country is ok with the other country screwing them. Those days are over in this country. (At least until a Democrat gets power again and bends us over again).

“Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations — entangling alliances with none.” ~ Thomas Jefferson
“The principles of Jefferson are the axioms of a free society.” ~ Abraham Lincoln
Wasn't the purpose of the UN espoused in the axiom, "Free Trade Stops Wars"? That was the reason for an international organization, wasn't it? To entangle all nations economically so that starting the next war would be financially harmful to the nation considering an invasion?
In 1980, there were 30 primary aluminum smelters in the US. Now there are 4, with only one of them capable of smelting aluminum with the purity needed for defense contracts. The US used to produce 40% of the primary aluminum smelted, now its around 2%. The reason? Other countries started placing tariffs on our aluminum and we didn't put tariffs on theirs. That's why 75% of the primary aluminum used in the US now comes from Canada, one of the reasons why we have a trade imbalance with Canada, and a reason why the US needs more primary aluminum smelters for our own financial and defense security.
We might not need 30 smelters, but we need more than 4, and the only way to have more than 4 is if the aluminum smelted here is price competitive with aluminum smelted elsewhere. And that will only happen if the aluminum smelted here isn't subject to import tariffs, or at the very least, there is an import tariff imposed on other countries that is equal to the tariffs they impose on aluminum produced here.
Of all the leftist news sources I’ve consumed lately, not one mentioned the tariffs our “allies” have place on our goods.
Homeagain, I know this isn’t a topic you want to discuss, but maybe you could tell us why the US should continue this unbalanced trade?

Of course not . . . why would they do that when it might paint the reciprocal tariffs as a reasonable response to the world markets our businesses face?
