I initially make contact with my wife via an internet site, so I'd have to be included in the "more than a year" dataset when we first "met". Most people these days are looking online, instead of in bars, gyms, churches, or offices, to make that first contact. After all, how are women to know what your political outlook is before they agree to a first date if you meet in person as your first contact? That seems to be more important than looks, financial status, or any other metric these days, right?

I agree, it would be nearly impossible to start a healthy relationship if ideologies are the opposite.

As for men not talking to women, I wonder if it has anything to do with the anti-masculinity campaign by the left or the reduction in testosterone levels? If I wasn’t married, I’d be looking online as well. I did the bar thing back in the day and it was a horrible way to find the “right” one.

My parents were married 36+ years before Pa died . . . he was a Republican, mom was a Democrat. They just understood, and accepted, that their votes would be cancelling each other out in an election. Probably helped that both were raised Catholic, but their divergent political views never interfered with loving each other and raising a family.

After all, being a Democrat was part of what made my mom who she was, and who she was is the reason my father fell in love with her in the first place . . . same principle works in reverse too.

I know of "mixed" marriages, but they are very long term. When I married my wife, she was slightly liberal, but after 9/11, she became more conservative than me.

My single friends? They have pretty much given up on dating. My SIL, she went from the internet to joining local groups to find men. That way she can spend time getting to know them before choosing to date them.

Your mom was a different Democrat than the insane Democrats of today. I can’t imagine she would have ever thought Democrats would be all for ending human life up until the time of birth or switching genders as if it was a normal human behavior. The Democrat party is dying because there is no morality or common sense left.

I think modern conservatives and modern liberals are as opposite as black and white… colors, not people.

My son met his wife online and they are expecting their first child in July. I didn’t say it’s the only way I would go, but if I really wanted to meet someone, I’d be fine looking online instead of just approaching random women in random places hoping to not seem like a creep. To be honest, if my wife passes before me (unlikely sin once she’s 10 years younger and is a woman)… I’d just be a mountain man with a few dogs. At my age, sifting through the baggage women my age would likely have would not be a lot of fun.

THE REAL JOKE IS....women,in general, when at wow (wiser older woman) stage....do not to want to remarry...for the same reasons u gave...too much baggage and, if the man is older, too many health issues....I am 8 yeas older than my DH....age is the leveling factor....what I could do at 72, is far different than at going on 78....(much to my chagrin and astonishment). When I was i my early 40's, it was just going to be me, my pathfinder,a shelter dog and a JOHN" COUGAR"MELLNCAMP TAPE ....
'Paper and Fire" and'' Cherry bomb''.....TUNEAGE,TRAVELING DOWN THE HYWAY OF LIFE..
