President Donald Trump's tariffs just cost America a chunk of Canadian business.

Subaru, which sold 68,043 cars in Canada in 2024, is reshuffling its supply chain in response to escalating car trade scuffles.

The company sold over 17,700 American-built vehicles in Canada last year, making up 26 percent of its 2024 sales.

But the Japanese automaker’s Canadian division will slash US imports to just 10 percent by the 2026 model year, representing thousands of cars and millions of dollars lost.

The biggest impact will be on the American-built Outback. The popular car will no longer ship north after 2026.

Instead, it will feature a 'made in Japan' badge.

Subaru Canada's CEO, Tomohiro Kubota, said the move will 'minimize the impact of the counter surtax,' according to Automotive News Canada.

For Subaru, it’s cheaper to build and ship cars out of Japan than deal with the political whiplash of US trade policy.
Canada's Subaru showrooms will now be supplied with more Japanese-built cars

Nissan just announced they plan to lose five billion! Ouch.

American car companies like Tesla will love less competition from Subaru. And this will hurt Japan's economy.

Mountain out of a mole hill. The US market for Subarus is big, but the company needs US consumers more than US consumers need Subaru. Wait and watch for the non-disaster.

The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.

Soooo . . . "full stop" is still somewhere around 7k Subaru vehicles manufactured in the US being imported into Canada . . .

Tell me HA, do you know how many Subaru's are assembled in the Indiana plant every year? Hint . . . it's north of 350,000, of which 18k were sent north, about 5% of the total production. I'm just guessing here, but I'd be willing to bet that Canada already imports more Japanese Subarus than US ones . . . and that the bump in US production resulting from the tariffs of other manufacturers is going to more than make up for the very, very, minor decline in Subaru production, so it's still a net gain overall, still more US jobs overall.

Tell me Chicken Little, are you tired of running around screaming the sky is falling yet?

WHAT U FAIL TO IMAGE IS A BEACH PAST TIME....BUILDING SAND CASTLES...EXQUISITE OR ELEMENTARY CREATIVE ENDEAVOR. WHEN IT IS LOW TIDE U HAVE MANY HOURS TO ERECT THE FUN CREATION.....I HAVE SEEN SOME SPECTACULAR STRUCTURES, INTRICATE IN DESIGN AND DETAILED TO THE MAX........THEN THE TIDE SWITCHES HOURS LATER AND THE SAND STRUCTURE IS AT RISK....IT IS A SLOW MOTION DISINTEGRATION,SLIDING AWAY, ERODING THE
BASE,PIECE BY PIECE, UNTIL THE CASTLE SLUMPS INTO NOTHINGNESS.

NOW, TAKE THAT IMAGE AND TRANSFER IT TO THE ECONOMIC EQUATION.....WAIT AND WATCH THE 'SLUMPING'.....SUBARU IS JUST A SMALL SAMPLING OF THE EROSION THAT IS BUILDING,I HAVE POSTED OTHER SMALL SAMPLINGS.....THINKING MACRO IS MANDATORY. ....BUT THEN
THE UNICORN UNIVERSE FINDS THAT TO BE UGLY AND UNCALLED FOR....JMO

The CEO of Whirlpool is saying the 2018 tariff put in place by Trump leveled the playing field for his domestic manufacturing and Whirlpool is now selling appliances in 2025 at 2014 prices.

That tariff hike in 2018 compelled his competitors, LG, Samsung and the like, to establish domestic manufacturing plants for their goods to avoid the tariffs. More domestic jobs, more domestic manufacturing, a level playing field in the market . . . the result? You can still buy a Whirlpool washer and dryer for the same price that you could buy them in 2014. Why does Subaru even have a manufacturing plant in Indiana? Tariffs. Over 350,000 vehicles that were being made offshore are now being made here in the US. More jobs, more domestic manufacturing. Who cares that the plant in Indiana is going to ship 10,000 fewer vehicles to Canada and Subaru is going to ship them from Japan instead?

Don't know what you call that, but I call it a successful strategy.

I DEAL IN REALITY, I ALSO CONNECT DOTS...THERE R WAY MORE NEGATIVE DOTS THAN POSITIVE DOTS OF INFO.....WHAT IT WILL COME DOWN TO IS THIS....ALL RESTS ON THE SCOTUS...THERE R SO MANY LAWSUITS THAT JUDGES HAVE FOUND TRUMP TO BE ON HE WRONG SIDE OF THE CONSTITUTION AND THE LAW....THEY R BEING BUMPED UP TO THE SCOTUS....THE QUESTION THAT HAS YET TO BE ANSWERED IS THIS.....CAN THE SCOTUS RULE WITH A NEUTRAL MINDSET...OR HAVE THEY BEEN "BOUGHT BY TRUMP"? 2025 WILL BE A TEST OF OUR COUNTRY,INTEGRITY,RULE OF LAW AND THE FOUNDING FATHERS INTENT.

Even President Biden knew China was cheating, but HA would rather see Xi beat President Trump instead.

CHINA IS A COMMUNIST COUNTRY THAT NOT ONLY STEALS EVERYTHING IT CAN TOUCH, IT ALSO UTILIZES SLAVE LABOR. YOU TALK ABOUT CHINA AS IF ITS A COUNTRY WE SHOULD BE EMULATING. YOU MAY NOT THINK IT’S A GOOD IDEA TO FINALLY ATTEMPT TO EQUALIZE OUR TRADE, BUT IT IS A PLAN AND IT IS WHAT RATIONAL PEOPLE VOTED FOR. YOU’VE NEVER VOTED FOR A POLITICIAN WHO PROMISED TO DO THAT OR TO ROOT OUT GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION AND WASTE AND THEN ACTUALLY FOLLOWS THROUGH WITH THOSE PROMISES. THE PEOPLE YOU VOTE FOR ARE FINE WITH THE STATUS QUO THAT IS DESTROYING ALL OF OUR FUTURES.
