The US is the most diverse economy in the world. If Canada cuts off oil and lumber exports to America, we have our own lumber and oil reserves to use.
Now if the US stops buying oil and lumber from Canada, it will send Ottawa scrambling. Now they have to find new customers, to replace America, you might need to find fifty new trading partners to make up that gap.
Sidenote: Because of previous NAFTA treaties, much of the trade between the three nations will continue without tariffs. 85% according to one report.
