Moscow and Kyiv appear to remain far apart on what terms they would accept to end the war that began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
Amid a rapid run of diplomacy that included talks between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska followed by a White House summit between Trump, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders, the Russian leader has maintained maximalist conditions for any potential settlement to the bloodiest war in Europe since World War II. Ukraine and Russia remain at an impasse over key issues, including the matter of a ceasefire as negotiations proceed, Russian demands that Ukraine cede territory and security guarantees for a postwar Ukraine.

After the Trump-Putin meeting on Friday in Alaska, which ended early without a deal, Trump said “many points were agreed to” and “very few” are left. After his subsequent meeting with Zelensky, he said peace was “within reach.” PER WAPO SUB REQ.
OH WHAT GREAT NEWS...TRUMP IS TRIUMPHED IN HIS ART OF THE DEAL......
Trump never said he was going to be successful in ending the war during that meeting. Anyone who thinks ending this war with one meeting is a fool. It's a lot like the trade deals.... you have to go back and fourth and one or both sides have to accept some pain. Unless the EU really wants to get serious about helping Ukraine, Russia holds the best cards and it's Ukraine that will have to give up the most.
But yeah, HA, you can dance around and cheer for the war to continue, but I'm going to sit back and WAIT... someone keeps giving me that advice but doesn't practice it herself.
The left is angry because they are now being judged by the content of their character and not by the color of their skin.
ZING ...RIGHT OVER YOUR HEAD, THE VIEWS OF EACH PARTY R CONFLICTING....TRUMP MAINTAINS THERE R VERY FEW OBSTACLES LEFT...IN OTHER WORDS, WE R LOOKING AT AN AGREEMENT SOON....BUT IN REALITY...THEY R FAR APART. PER THE OTHER PARTY...CAN'T U JUST ADMIT IT IS A FALSE ASSUMPTION...SO HE CAN SAVE FACE.
So you're saying Trump shouldn't attempt to broker peace... the killing should just continue without trying to bring both parties together? You will be happy if Trump fails and you'll be sad and angry if he succeeds. What an inhuman way to think.
You're all about criticism but you never come with the "right" way to do it. What would Mark Cuban do, seeing how you think he's some kind of political and foreign policy genius.

Now, as an independent thinking individual HA, can you conceive of a set of circumstances under which both of these statements could be accurate? Or is the need to find fault with Trump so instilled into your soul that you are incapable of reconciling the two and it must be either or instead . . .
Let's try this on for size and see how it fits:
Among the "very few" points that are left where there is disagreement are some of the major points that need to be determined to bring the conflict to an end. Think that's possible HA? That there are indeed "many points", minor in comparison to Ukraine surrendering territory, on which all sides agree?
If I was Ukraine, I wouldn't want a peace agreement. Putin will just use to time to recoup his finances, update his military, and attack again in a few years. Better to press on now with Europe rearming them.

If I was Europe, I would walk away from the peace talks.
Start building and shipping as much military equipment as they can produce. Encourage nations to send privately equipped units and send them to Ukraine to fight./b]
Promote these foreign legions heavily. As Moscow sees Europe come together, they might even dump Putin themselves. Russia has to be tired of years of sanctions, the draft, and few gains.
