Too much of anything is bad . . . there are health consequences associated with excessive Vitamin C intake. If a woman takes acetaminophen a couple of times a month for a headache while pregnant is a completely different scenario than a woman taking the maximum, or higher, recommended daily dose throughout the term of her pregnancy to deal with a chronic pain issue.
And life is a set of tradeoffs and changing conditions. When I was born in 1965, low dose "baby" Aspirin was in common use for children. Now it has been deemed too dangerous.
Now low dose Aspirin is used by old people to lessen the chance of strokes and heart attacks.
