Strange that with record low consumer confidence, Wall Street is stronger that ever before. If Main Street is broke and has reduced spending, wouldn't the market be declining?
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Somewhat misleading, Fred. Many, particularly leftist politicians, would like you to believe that the economy is a zero sum game. That is, if the markets gain then Main Street must lose. The economy is dynamic, expanding and contracting. Right now it is expanding. One only needs to look at his 401-K or other investment modalities to see this expansion.
The money invested in the market does not go under a mattress, it is invested in capital expenditures by the companies that make up the "market". Where are these funds going? Into the community, for instance look north to Cheyenne, WY. It is a "boom town", due to the development of data centers in the immediate vicinity. The small businesses there are ecstatic over the investments as is the State of Wyoming.
