GREELEY, CO (KUNC) - Republican South Dakota Senator John Thune is in Denver today headlining a get out the vote rally corresponding with the first day of mailing out ballots for early voting. Thune will join GOP Senate hopeful Ken Buck at Clement Park in Littleton at 4 o'clock.

"Colorado Statesman" Publisher Jody Hope Strogoff says it's the first of several high-profile visits on behalf of the Senate candidates - including a stop from First Lady Michelle Obama on Thursday for Senator Michael Bennet and one next week from former President Bill Clinton.

"Clinton actually was a supporter of Andrew Romanoff in the primary but of course has united around Michael Bennet for the general election. And he is going to be doing a couple of different events including a rally later in the day on Monday," says Strogoff.

Noticeably missing, though, is President Obama who was in Colorado last February stumping on behalf of Bennet during his primary campaign. In recent months Bennet has distanced himself from President Obama despite his efforts to help re-elect other Democrats in contested races across the country.
