A good start - more definitely needs to be done to help those returning from war. I'd put more on actual follow-up counseling than research though...
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
Peter Gutierrez, an internationally recognized suicide researcher at the Denver VA Medical Center, said the project will bring new insights to assessing suicide risk in the military culture.
"Very little is currently known about how relevant existing tools are when applied to the military," Gutierrez said. "The consortium will allow us to determine how best to screen and assess personnel, develop effective interventions and ultimately reduce suicides.”
Yes, finally the realization that war is hell, those returning soldiers may need a bit of help assimilating back into society.
