Koreas Exchange Gunfire Across Border

(Oct. 29) -- North Korea troops opened fire today across the heavily fortified border with South Korea, and southern border guards shot back immediately, Seoul's military said.

No one was hurt, but the brief exchange of gunfire rattled nerves on the already jittery Korean peninsula just days ahead of a G-20 meeting in Seoul.

North Korean soldiers fired the opening shots at 5:26 p.m. local time, zinging bullets in the direction of a South Korean border post in the mountainous Gangwon province, northeast of Seoul, The Wall Street Journal quoted a South Korean military official as saying.

Another official told The Korea Herald that the North's gunfire consisted of two shots. "It hasn't been confirmed whether the shooting was accidental," the official was quoted as saying. "We returned the fire immediately."

Oh crap. I hope this is a very isolated incident.
Cuz North Korea's got nothing to lose and crappy @$$ nukes that are more likely to hit China or Pakistan when they launch them towards South Korea.

"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther

The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill

Or Japan, or the Air Force or Marine bases on Okinawa, or Hawaii.

Because if a million screaming North Korean soldiers begin a war with South Korea....your boys could get drafted. This will be conventional war.

Here's an article written at your level that explains the situation.

Bear in mind that ever since the Armistice was signed in June 1953 there have been incidents occurring almost constantly. They are isolated incidents but they are definitely attention-getters. Two shots do not panic anyone there any more than just returning fire.

Bush should have taken care of N. Korea when he had the chance. Invading Iraq committed most of our available troops elsewhere and N. Korea knew it. That's when they started working on their nuclear weapon because they knew they were safe. I never could understand why we didn't move on N. Korea instead of Iraq. It is a much bigger threat, IMO.

Again it is Bush's fault. What has Obama done about it? Nothing.

Probably because it is such a poor country and most of what it has done has been posturing in order to get financial aid. The Islamic Terrorist threat is far more important, IMO. But we never agree on anything, do we?

He can't do anything about it. To man Bush's two wars we've used everyone we got -- even sent National Guard troops to the Mideast.

You can't fight terrorists with an Army. A crazy dictator with actual weapons of mass destruction and the missiles to carry them is a far greater threat than a bunch of crazy zealots living in caves, IMO.
