Reasons Why We Will Be in Afghanistan a While More

We can't fix it. Our continued presence causes increasing harm. We are a toxic substance in the body of the middle east. We have to get our military out. Supporting the work of NGO's like Central Asia Institute is the only hope we have of redemption in this reason. The only military option is genocide.

How do we expect Washington DC to fix Afghanistan when they don't know how to fix America?

They know how. They just don't know how to do it and still get re-elected.

well....a Republican president got us into this mess....lets see if a Republican house has any bright ideas on how to get us out. I would not advise holding one's breath for that.

Never get involved in land wars in Asia. God forbid that we should have learned anything from the British or Russians...

So we should nuke millions of people likely triggering an all out war involving China because a few hundred foreigners had a training camp that hatched a plot that succeeded against us? Do you really want to end the world that badly?

Had to go back something like ten pages to find any real mention of the war in Afghanistan. This war is SO yesterday don't you think?Am I reading this story right? Is the President REALLY sending another 1,400 troops into Afghanistan? Is this the same kind of logic as "spending your way out of debt"?

U.S. Boosts Afghan Surge
Pentagon Plans to Send 1,400 Extra Marines to Supplement Spring Campaign

Defense Secretary Robert Gates has decided to send an additional 1,400 Marine combat forces to Afghanistan, officials said, in a surprise move ahead of the spring fighting season to try to cement tentative security gains before White House-mandated troop reductions begin in July.

You have to wonder how this actually impacts on the much touted "drawdown" scheduled for later on this year.
