Exactly!! And that is why they finally voted in a strong Conservative who will do something about it rather than turning a blind eye.

And my question is, how will revoking the licenses of illegals help? They seem to know who they are, so why don't they go get them? This is just weird.

Haven't you watched the news? Arizona tried that and Obama sued them. The Federal governemnt won't allow them to deport. So they have to take action at a State level that the Federal government can't touch. Take away licenses and then they can't work or go to jail and get fined for driving without one. It discourages them from going to NM. Plus new people trying to get a license will be more scrutinized to see if they are a legal citizen, which I am fine with. If they find them there illegal, they can take away their license, but if they try and deport them ICE, Napalitano, Obama and the Federal Government will stop them and sue them and fight for the illegal immigrant over the United States. But they can't sue them for taking away a license. That is a state law. Conservatives are trying anything that works and doing all they can do with their hands tied by the liberal controlled government.

If NM really does know which drivers are illegals, then they should just find them and deport them. I'm not understanding why you think revoking a license is a good idea, since if they get stopped - even with a legal license - wouldn't they then be identified as illegals and would then be arrested for that? After all, the NM Governor has all but admitted that they know who has illegal licenses.

They DO, in fact, know which licenses were issued to illegal aliens. It was an effort to get them into the system so that they could "try" to enforce the requirements for auto insurance. Some of the folks did it, and some (usually the criminal element that doesn't want to be tracked for any reason) did not. They don't round them up and deport them because that was the "implied bargain"--"You come in and apply and get one, and we won't deport you."

In NM this breaks down into the usual camps of: "Round them up and deport them all", and/or: "At least license them so we won't have unlicensed drivers on the roads."

On this one, I still come down on the side of: "If they're illegal, let me escort you to the border." I know this new policy is going to cause MUCH outrage...But that's who the citizens elected, and since NM doesn't have a "Papers, Please"-law like Arizona, (and is never likely to), this is one way to make it more undesirable for the illegal folks to integrate into the NM population.

Scary but I mostly agree with you. But if you read my previous post the reason they don't deport them is because they saw how Arizona tried and was sued and stopped by the Federal government. That is why they aren't going that route. Not until the Federal government allows the states to. So as you said, 'this is one way to make it more undesirable for the illegal folks to integrate into the NM population'.

LJ and I agreed on something!! Time for a drink!!! :drunk: :party :thedrink: :Drunk: :shots: :frienddrink: Where can we meet?

Are you sure about that? If an illegal is found, they are deported.

Deportation of illegal immigrants increases under Obama administration

In a bid to remake the enforcement of federal immigration laws, the Obama administration is deporting record numbers of illegal immigrants and auditing hundreds of businesses that blithely hire undocumented workers.

The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency expects to deport about 400,000 people this fiscal year, nearly 10 percent above the Bush administration's 2008 total and 25 percent more than were deported in 2007. The pace of company audits has roughly quadrupled since President George W. Bush's final year in office.

I don't think there is any effort to prevent deportation, as you have stated. Can you give examples of where Obama, ICE, Napalitano and the Federal Government have sued to keep an illegal immigrant in the country?
