Neither of those require Americans to purchase anything from private party. And you can opt out simply by not earning money in the US. And there is no provision for sanctions or jail time for opting out.

And you won't have to buy health insurance if you move to a third world country.....can we help you pack your bag?

If we don't stop our reckless spending, we won't have to move. We can just watch it come here.

Too bad future generations aren't here to see all the great things we are spending their $$ on!!

If we don't provide healthcare for all our citizens then we are already considered a 3rd world country, funny how this great nation is the only industrialized country that can't provide this basic service to it's citizens.

Article I of the Militia Act of 1792 enacted by the 2nd Congress required all able bodied free men between the ages of 18 and 40 to provide their own supplies including "That every citizen, so enrolled and notified, shall, within six months thereafter, provide himself with a good musket or firelock, a sufficient bayonet and belt, two spare flints, and a knapsack, a pouch, with a box therein, to contain not less than twenty four cartridges, suited to the bore of his musket or firelock, each cartridge to contain a proper quantity of powder and ball; or with a good rifle, knapsack, shot-pouch, and powder-horn, twenty balls suited to the bore of his rifle, and a quarter of a pound of powder; and shall appear so armed, accoutred and provided,"

Further, there is federal legislation on the books requiring the payment for social security, whether or not you want it, gasoline taxes, income taxes, etc., all whether or not you want the services from those taxes.

"reckless spending".... [Squawk!]

Sorry, but Social Security & Medicare are NOT "reckless spending"...

Extra jet-engines for jets we don't need; No-bid contracts for crappy, unfinished work in Iraq & Afghanistan; two unnecessary wars; etc. .... THAT'S "reckless spending"....

Why don't people like you move to a socialist country where they are already forcing people to pay for it, rather than trying to change this countries system into something that is proven to not work well anywhere else? Why should anyone be able to force me to buy something that I don't want and may never use? What if they start forcing everyone to buy condoms 'in case' they have sex and so it will protect them from diseases and thus save the hospitals from having to treat them Even make nuns buy them even though they probably will neer use them. That is how stupid this is!

Do you buy health insurance now, Viking? Do you use it? I know I buy it and the only thing I can afford is catastrophic, which we never use. We spend thousands a year "just in case."

I thought there was an opt-out option for the new health care bill. Am I wrong on that?

Which countries have the health care systems that don't work?

Yes I have Health Ins. MY CHOICE! No one is forcing me to and no one has the right to force me until a Socialist / Marxist President and congress are all in place at the same time. 2008 - 2010, the Perfect Storm!

And yes you are wrong. There is no opt-out option. If you refuse to pay, they force you to at the end of the year in your taxes.

awww LJ, no matter how many reports, studies, articles there are on how inefficient our current health care system is, or how we lag behind the rest of the industrialized world, conservatives will not change their tune. Like the dinosours, they resist changing, even if it would save their life and the lives of many Americans. Good enough, is good enough for them. I think this country can do better than good enough.....

Would you feel the same if you could not afford health insurance? You are not forced to pay if you cannot afford to pay.....that's the whole idea, provide coverage for as many Americans as possible, and that means we all chip in, which is nothing new, we are all paying for care for those who cannot afford insurance, we just don't "see" it as a line item.
