Thanksgiving Day in the year 2000. Millions of Americans would gather at dinner tables across the nation and give thanks for blessings big and small. Little did they know that in less than ten months, terrorists would attack on American soil and over 3,000 brothers, sisters, moms, dads, sons and daughters would be missing from the Thanksgiving table in 2001.
A mere ten years later, America is as despised as ever by those same terrorist groups and they exist, seemingly, for the sole purpose of exterminating our principles, our liberties and our people. This particular year, however, we are perceived by much of the world as a vastly weakened nation. Our leaders celebrated a presidential victory by going on an apology tour around the globe and followed that up by spending us into an irreversible abyss of debt, devaluing our dollar and angering our global creditors. The administration refuses to get serious about our porous borders and the millions of people in this country illegally.
Was the recent missile launch off the California coast an anomaly? An accident? Was the timing of the subsequent new and intrusive airport security screening process a mere coincidence? Is North Korea’s latest military aggression simply a continuation of their political posturing? Or are these signs that even our most egregious enemies view the cracks in our armor as opportunities?
No matter your religious beliefs, or absence thereof, this could prove to be a very special Thanksgiving; one worthy of a sincere prayer or two. None of us know who may be missing from the table next year.
