The Darling of Europe

It seems that mere months ago our young President was the darling of Europe but now the honeymoon is definately over. Between the recent economic summits and now these leaks....the party is over. This little "problem" may grow legs of its own in the coming days. At least President Obama wasn't kidding about "transparency" in his administration.

A Superpower's View of the World
By SPIEGEL Staff

251,000 State Department documents, many of them secret embassy reports from around the world, show how the US seeks to safeguard its influence around the world. It is nothing short of a political meltdown for US foreign policy.

Never before in history has a superpower lost control of such vast amounts of such sensitive information -- data that can help paint a picture of the foundation upon which US foreign policy is built. Never before has the trust America's partners have in the country been as badly shaken. Now, their own personal views and policy recommendations have been made public -- as have America's true views of them.

A lot of these documents are from the mid 2000's, aren't they? Seems that a lot of comments to date from the wikileaks has been about the last administration policies.

From what I understand, the leaked documents - all of them - come from one individual source.

I'm not sure really. I haven't read any of the stuff yet...only reacting to what's coming out on it. I cited a German source as I thought their perspective was relevant. Time will tell.

I have read that some are as recent as 2007 and that no source has been revealed.

Based in what I just read on the Guardian link there....some of this stuff is a lot more current than 2007.

Maybe the administration should put sensitive state department documents under the care of the team that secures things like...presidential birth records...law school writings...you know, stuff that never, ever leaks.
