I was pointing out to the section in the linked article that would ban the sale of this type of food stuff on campus, during school hours. Usually by extra-curicular clubs.

And how often does that happen anymore anyway? Most schools don't even allow a homemade birthday treat taken to class anymore.

All the school bakesales I've ever seen or particiapted in as parent, student, interested party, or teacher were at things like parent-teacher conferences and after hours holiday parties - and bought by the parents, not the kids.

What next, we ban Scholastic books from sellng in the schools, cause the kids might, oh I dunno, read??

Holy hells folks - you wanna curtail something, curtail TV and video game and computer time for kids - then they'll go outside and run about, and be able to have that damn cookie from the bake sale without worrying about getting fat.

The article linked at the beginning of this discussion is an Associated Press story.

Since the righties here have previously dismissed the Associated Press as liberal (unless it's an article that fits their thinking), I'm going take a page from their playbook.

Pay no attention folks. It's an AP story and should not be believed.

Ok - now that I've read the whole article, of more concern to me would be the various fund raisers esp at the middle/high school level where the kids are selling candy bars for various causes. I guess that would be allowed if not too frequent. Hopefully it's up to local decision makers as to how often is too often.

Everything seems to be right and left instead of sensible. Who knew???

Everything is about a few telling the rest of us what we can do and what we can't do, because they are smarter than the rest of us poor ignorant masses. I am so sick of PC crap and Elitist mentality. Whatever happened to live and let live?

Whatever happened to personal responsibility? Whatever happened to common sense? It has become the most UNCOMMON thing around.

Oh, I'm so sorry, the masses elected the Obamas to rule the world, so everything they say or do is okay. We should just shut up and live with it. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!

why is americans so fat, they eat to much, they not work hard like they used to. We liberals are looking out for you, when russians invaded my county, I fought against them. I see they were good and helped our people, so I went to live the way they wanted us to. Socialist way is best, liberals know we need it in america.

The most interesting thing about this 2 pages of posts, is that there is only one post questioning if the FEDS have any business regulating the food menu at local schools. I am always amazed at everyone's first instinct to debate the "merits and logic" of doing some new federal law, or 'how does it affect me".

Who elected "Michelle Obama" ? Since when does the "private citizen, unemployed first lady" have any business writing regulations or legislation?

Is the food menu at the white house and capitol going to be the same as what they dictate to our local schools?

Hellooo no longer "free" Americans, you are being micro-managed from Washington. HHS agency guidelines on what health insurance policy/benefits you are mandated to buy. Dept of transportation (Federal) dictating that local govts replace local street signs to newer easier to read ones. Feds deciding what is on the local school menu. Feds mandating that new cars have a back-up camera whether you want to buy it or not. The list goes on and on.

...Public health groups pushed for the language on fundraisers, which encourages the secretary of Agriculture to allow them only if they are infrequent.....The USDA has a year to write rules that decide how frequent is infrequent.
