Protesters to be at Elizabeth Edwards Funeral

Baptist Church members plan to protest the funeral of Elizabeth Edwards because she accepted gays and lesbians, and supported gay rights. These protesters say God gave her breast cancer and "a whoring husband" as retribution.
This is the same mentality of the protesters that show up at the funerals of fallen soldiers.
Are we going to need more government to give family members and loved ones peace as they say goodbye? What should communities do to prevent these protests? These protesters have no shame.

This is just wrong. Let the family grieve.

The silent majority will be silent no more.

Totally wrong. These 'church members' are not Christians IMO.

It is the same group that protests soldiers funerals.
The only thing communities can do is outnumber them and out shout them in a peaceful , loving counter protest. Communities can shield family members and loved ones from the ugliness of such protests by sheer numbers and singing patriotic or religious songs. It works quite effectively.
The Patriot Guard has been doing this for a very long time for family members

ahhhhhh.....but that is exactly what they want. They don't solicit donations like a regular church. They prefer to sue you in a court of law for infringing on their right to freedom of speech and religion.

so that is how they counter them. i hadn't been following. i was wondering if they were going to resort to private burial areas for family members only.

While I disagree with the actions of this group, it is their legal right to protest.

Yes, yes, yes, legal rights at all costs. How about what is the decent thing to do, the right or moral thing to do? What these so called believers in God are doing is just plain wrong and disrespectful, who are they to speak for God? They say, "God hates........" In the religious teachings I have received, God does not hate. There are legal rights that make it okay to be ill behaved, as in this case. They can believe what they want to believe but, stay home and stay away from those grieving a loss of a loved one. Common decency in this country is becoming more of a rarity and less commonplace.
