That was a great video, thanks Teddy. He has done a magnificent job doing the most with the space that he has, I especially like the use of tinted windows and mirrors to make the space warm and inviting and look bigger than it is. I think he could free up a lot more room if he chucked the CDs and digitized everything, and I would've liked to have seen more of the kitchen. I wonder how that space would look with kids in it - it was very clean and organized and that just doesn't happen when kids are present (I know, despite my best efforts)! Can't really have lots of friends over for football either, unless you're all very friendly!
One of our problems is our culture of "needing large spaces". I'm guilty of this too, as I love my big house, but I offset all of my energy costs and am working to improve my energy efficiency. We Americans have been spoiled by colonizing a large portion of the continent and seem to think of it as a "right" to use more space than we need. In the future, as the population continues to rise, and energy costs increase, it will become more of a necessity to shrink our living and working radii, and will become more natural to do so. No scientific theory needed, as you pointed out Teddy, just practical living.
"Now, more than ever, the illusions of division threaten our very existence. We all know the truth: more connects us than separates us. But in times of crisis the wise build bridges, while the foolish build barriers. We must find a way to look after one another as if we were one single tribe.” -King T'Challa, Black Panther
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it. ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is. ~Winston Churchill
If you are an ant on the anthill, then this type of life is fine. If you are independent, you size up the situation, consider the living conditions, then pack your clothes and strike out for open spaces of the remote corners of the world.
To hell with living like a rat in a hole.
major bean, I'd hate to see what you thought of a true "hole", if you think that guy has it bad...

I am reminded of my dorm room. I would hate to have to live my life in that room. What made it bearable was the hope that I would be allowed to do better with my education.
This fellow's room IS his end result. There is no hope of "better". The most that can be said is that he does not live in a drawer in a locker room as very many of his fellow contrymen do.
This man cannot even be compared as trailer trash. Most mobile homes are larger than his pigeon hole.
What does size have to do with quality? Innovativeness? Creativity and Ingenuity? His education is what helped him realize more potential with that space than 99% of other people are even capable of dreaming.
I've seen bigger crappier homes in India that would make me choose this guy's home every day of the week, and tomorrow too.

hey now i liked my dorm room. small and uncluttered, because i chose to keep it that way and easy to clean. after seeing what some pay for utility bills in the mountains i am for smaller, better insulated south facing fire resistant homes.
bumper sticker - honk if you will pay my mortgage

I was not impressed by his small apartment. It was the creative solutions to the problem of limited living space. That is one of the major tests of intelligence. How we adapt and overcome a problem using the skills and knowledge we have acquired. Imagine what this guy could do for you if you have a large family/great room.
I remember long ago Archer showed pics of how her kids had solved in a creative way the use of limited space in an apartment. I appreciate when people get creative in a practical way. I don't consider this creative. (part of a Euro-trash exhibit)
