On this day in 1777, the Continental Army moved into encampment at Valley Forge amidst stormy winds and piercing cold, as the 12,000 Continentals prepared for winter's fury. They would remain there until June 19, 1778.

What's interesting is that during all those events you could find those who'd have sworn that they marked the end of our nation. Good things endure.
