LOS ANGELES — Sir Elton John is holding close a new tiny dancer.
The piano man and husband David Furnish have become parents to a 7-pound, 15-ounce baby boy born on Christmas Day. The news was first reported Monday night by USMagazine.com and confirmed to The Associated Press by John's Los Angeles-based publicist.
Poor kid. When he's 18 John will be 80 and Furnish will be 66. Who's he going to roughhouse with when he's growing up? Who's going to give him guidance before his first date? He's going to be raised by old men. Sad.
I would suspect that in true British fashion the little tyke will be raised by a nanny and then the best of boarding schools visiting his parents on holidays and over summer recess. Obviously the child isn't theirs, which means that one lucky little boy is going to have an opportunity to grow up in a home with two parents (plus servants) who shower him with attention and affection which he might not have otherwise had.
We have many children in this nation being raised by their grandparents because their parents are either not up to the job, too selfish to do it properly, are incarcerated, addicted to drugs or were never intending to spend the rest of their lives together in the first place. Age has no bearing on the ability to love a child.
I, for one, have nothing but kudos for Sir Elton John and Mr. Furnish. The little boy will have opportunities in his life that he otherwise would not have had and that few are privileged enough to enjoy absent the action these two men have taken.
