SANTA FE, New Mexico (AFP) – New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson Friday refused to pardon Wild West outlaw Billy the Kid, saying there was not enough evidence to forgive the infamous gunslinger, killed in 1881.

Advocates for a pardon said the legendary gunman -- reputed to have shot dead 21 people, one for each year of his life -- had reached a pardon deal with then-governor Lew Wallace in exchange for testimony regarding another shooting.

A lot of spin involved with Billy, would love to get the total story story one of these days and also like to visit the places he lived in New Mexico.

Beautiful country down there... You can find any number of really nice places to stay in Santa Fe, and Fort Sumner is an easy 150 mile drive, about 2-1/2 hours. There's a great Billy The Kid Museum there...

Stay in Ruidoso. Sure, it's in the mountains, but DIFFERENT mountains. Love riding the MC around there. We took the tour of Lincoln. Very interesting.

I guess Billy the Kid didn't have the cronyism with Richardson that the Arnold's friend has.
