What I don't understand is why the attendants don't respond when a passenger makes a complaint about that. I thought their main purpose was "safety." If the devices interfere with signals, isn't that a safety issue?

Doesn't matter what the person's political persuasion is. I see this a lot on planes. It's about "I'm important and the rules don't apply to me."
