Giffords Opens Her Eyes! -- Conservatives: "You Lie!"

Loughner wasn't a liberal - he was a registered Independent who didn't even vote in the last election. He didn't just hate the news, he hated the entire government - if you're going to label him anything, call him an anarchist - the exact opposite of a liberal. Now can we at least, please, stop repeating this lie?

Jared Lee Loughner was a registered independent, didn't vote in 2010 election

Suspected Tucson gunman Jared Lee Loughner registered as an independent voter in Arizona in the fall of 2006, according to the Pima County Registrar of Voters.

Loughner registered to vote on Sept. 29, 2006, identifying himself as an independent. Records show he voted in the 2006 and 2008 elections but is current listed as "inactive" on the state's voter roles -- meaning that he did not vote in November.

Loughner's decision to affiliate as an independent rather than a Republican or Democrat would seem to affirm the sense that while he targeted Giffords in the attack, it was not a decision born of a set of deeply held political beliefs that fit neatly into either party.

When Obama departed from his prepared text to announce in his speech that Giffords had opened her eye, it became one of the most rousing applause lines. He did not get into details, except to say that her colleagues and husband had witnessed the moment.

And I want to tell you -- her husband Mark is here and he allows me to share this with you -- right after we went to visit, a few minutes after we left her room and some of her colleagues in Congress were in the room, Gabby opened her eyes for the first time. Here's the video, the part I quoted above starts at the 10:58 mark. Listen again and then tell me he lied when he said she opened her eyes AFTER HE LEFT (which, by my count, he states twice). And listen for how he says it - does he try to understate that it happened after he left, or try to insinuate that it happened because he visited? I don't see that at all and if that's what you're going to quibble on, then we are at an impasse. But please try to listen objectively and search for the truth. This isn't a liberal outrage, this is an outrage because the truth, plain to see, documented in word and video, is being vigorously and vociferously denied. The lesser the search for the truth, the deeper we sink into chaos.
