Anyone have a good argument on why we shouldn't?

I'll bite. You are correct. The defense budget can and will take a big hit. The Pentagon is making a "preemptive" strike on this by proposing significant budget cuts. But it won't be enough. There are many more cuts on the way.

My only request would be that if we ARE going to cut the defense budget radically that we bring our men and women home out of harm's way first so they don't get caught up in a situation where they don't have the resources to do their job and defend themselves.

In the meantime the Russians, Chinese, Arabs, Europeans and all the other fat cats can immediately assume the role of world police. Most of the regions we are committed to will flash over right after we depart. Korea, the Middle East, the Continent of Africa, Iraq and Afghanistan. They will go to hell in a handbasket.

Fine with me...let them clean up their own mess. Bring our military all home.

If the Chinese want the reserve currency then they can take the defense costs. Watch them back pedal. Trade off, that we bought into, there is a price to pay.

Worlds Police?..Almost sounds honorable...Sadly, we are not playing the worlds police..We are the worlds bully, AKA Imperialists.

I don't agree with your characterization of the U.S. as world bully...but I guess that doesn't matter if we bring all our forces home anyway. Then the nice people of Al Queda, the Taliban, all the crazies in the Middle East and the nice warlords across the entire African Continent can spread their brotherhood and benevolence across their respective lands.

I give all these places and their crazy-assed people about a year before they melt down. Then like I and others have said...the Chinese, Russians, Arabs and Europeans can clean it up. They can send up postcards of how it's going.

I mean really, screw all these a-holes...let them sort it out.

I've been all over the world from the jungles of Paupu New Guinea to the back streets of Calcutta, the camel pits in Dubai and in the board rooms of New York City and people are the same wherever you go.

You got that right, and when there is a country being taken over (remember Kuwait?) we won't need to be bothered with helping anymore since we've already done our fair share over the years. You won't see other countries going to the rescue either, especially without our help (except China and Russia who would never help anyway). Lets pull our troops out of EVERY country, friendly or not unless they want to pay for our services.

I'm all for using our military to put a padlock on our borders and blast anything out of the sea or sky that threatens our citizens. Defense only unless a country wants to get mid evil on our asses.
