Why not pay organ donors?

Why not pay organ donors? was created by CinnamonGirl
The Senate sponsor of an "opt-out" organ donor bill seemed surprised by the vehemence of her critics. "There is a lot of misinformation out there, and people are scared and upset," declared Sen. Lucia Guzman, D-Denver, in withdrawing her bill.
Yet maybe the critics understand that by changing the standard so Coloradans would have to declare they don't want to be considered a possible organ donor, we would erode the voluntary nature of the transaction. And never mind that some European countries already operate successfully under "presumed consent" laws. Americans value their autonomy and resent government attempting to settle highly personal decisions on their behalf.

I hear there is already a ring stealing people's kidneys and leaving the people in a bathtub full of ice water and note to call 911. I got this from an email from a very reliable source, who heard about it from a friend of a cousin of a hotel employee's wife.

Seriously though, I am getting a bit tired of a certain segment of the political spectrum worshiping the they do it in Europe so it must be good mantra.

OFF TOPIC:

What was the name of the movie that recently came out about a company that makes artificial organs and sells it to needy folks for hundreds of thousands of $$$? They put you on a payment plan and if you fall behind they literally come and reposess the organ out of your body.

I think people are worried that the poor will sell their organs and act as body banks for the rich. Or even worse, people killed to sell their organs.

Irony? You give your blood to Bonfils but they sell it to hospitals.

It would be rather tricky... I am pretty sure that once you have had cancer (no matter where the cancer was) your organs are no longer worthy of donation. So I am not sure how they can give you a tax credit or a check and guarantee that your organs will be worth anything when you die. I may be wrong. But I as I said, i am pretty sure that is the case.

But if you've been cancer-free for five years, with some other stipulations, you can give blood. So what's the diff?
