Akin to taxing the automobiles and fuel to subsidize the buggy whip and horse drawn coach industry at the turn of the last century.........The Viking wrote: They are talking about a three percent (3%) tax on monthly cell phone bills to help newspapers and traditional journalism. And a proposed five percent tax on the purchase of consumer electronic items such as computers, iPads and Kindles to help support newspapers and traditional journalism. And a proposed tax on web sites like the Drudge Report to help the newspapers they draw their headlines from. And a tax on monthly cell phone bills to help newspapers and traditional journalism.
So are you OK with all of these new taxes to try and save the newpaper and traditional journalism industry, or is it just the evolution of news and how capitalism works. Hey, businesses and industries come and go. If one is outdated, should we all pay higher taxes on other items and news outlets to try and save something that is no longer as viable as it once was?
