I'm hoping this is just pessimism.

Just as you don't corner a mountain lion or a bear....I hope the extremists in the Arab world think twice about the destruction of Israel. The Israelis are well equipped and well trained. They also have tactical nuclear weapons. They had some tough times trying to execute low-intensity conflicts because of all the contraints, but if the leaders of Israel feel their nation is in peril there is no doubt in MY mind that the Israelis will pull out all the stops and level their Arab neighbors.

Unlike the U.S. and our Western allies, the Israelis won't lose a lot of sleep wringing their hands and wondering about political correctness or what other nations will think about their actions. In the same way they "dealt" with Iraq's nuclear weapons program, the Israelis will act and then ask for forgiveness after the fact as they gaze across the smoking holes in the desert that used to be major Arab cities.

This fight would put the U.S. in a very tight spot. We have throttled them back in the past...but they are entitled to the survival of their nation and may not be inclined to listen to the current Administration. I hope the Arab world doesn't decide to play with this fire because if they do they will live to regret it.

You definitely interpret things the way your mind works, don't you Archer. Well the truth is, of course we are trying to get members on our forum, but I have explained it carefully since I have been doing this. JMC asked that we not duplicate each site so I have been asked to post a link from one to the other. While visiting ArkansasHeadWatersbound.com, I am hoping some people will join that site as well. The sooner there are more people on there, the sooner I will be too busy doing what CG and JMC do, managing the site, to be over here posting.

Lionshead:

I, too, hope the Arab world doesn't take it back to all out war with Israel, for the sake, first, of Israel, and secondly, for the rest of the world. Unfortunately history shows us that War may very well be inevitable. Since 1949 there have been many wars, and attacks have been an almost daily occurrence somewhere in the Middle East. To me, this is not to be taken lightly by Israel or by us.

I don't think the Arab revivalism will lead to war with Israel.

The Gulf Arab countries have been doing business with Israel -- occasionally in the open.
(there was until recently, an Isreael trade office in Qatar)

Here's some thinking from Hareetz (a paper in Israel)

...The revolutionaries at Tahrir Square were motivated by Egyptian national pride and not by their adoration of the Islamic Revolution in Iran. Whoever succeeds Mubarak will want to follow this line, even bolster Egyptian nationalism, and not transform Egypt into an Iranian satellite. This does not mean that Mubarak's successor will encourage Israel to strike the Iranian nuclear installations....

I suspect the events in Egypt will slow Israel's desire to carry out a military strike on Iran. With so much regional instability, it's a risky proposition. Israel would appear anti-Islamic, rather than defensive. While her neighbors would likely tolerate defensive moves, they would respond in-kind were she to appear anti-Islamic.

OT. Other than local road conditions etc. for that area, does it offer anything that this site does not?

Well Neptune:

We as of yet have only one Liberal on there, so there aren't the arguments and name calling that is on here YET.

Now that I said that it might change. LOL

I hope you will post like you have been doing here. If you win the free dinner, we won't force you to go to Buena Vista, Salida or Leadville to use it.

There are three dynamics in Egypt. One has stepped down. The other two are the common people who have caused the revolution and the Muslim Brotherhood. I cannot believe that the U.S. will stand by idly and let the Muslim Brotherhood steal the opportunity from the people of Egypt. Our military is in the Middle East and will not require a year of logistics to poise for a military confrontation, but can respond within a reasonable time.

We have to have faith that a good outcome will surface concerning Egypt.

Major Bean
