The pursuit of peace, however, can be just as risky as the prosecution of war. If mismanaged, full-blown Afghan peace talks might ignite a civil war along ethnic lines. (The Taliban draw their support from Afghanistan’s Pashtuns; the most vehement anti-Taliban militias are non-Pashtun.)
I think it is high time that diplomacy steps to the forefront in south-central Asia. Peace cannot be won there with military action alone. the diplomats MUST now do the hard work of helping to form functional governments.
Until governments are in place both in Afghanistan and Pakistan that are perceived as legitimate by the people of the region....there will be no peace.
