I love it. Yet another duplicate, useless law on the books that'll create another new, revenue-sucking bureaucracy. Why not just enforce the laws we already have?? Wouldn't that be a novel idea?

IIRC, I think this Real ID program started gaining momentum after 9/11 when it was revealed that some of the hijackers had obtained driver's licenses in states known for easy-to-get id's.
And even now, some sanctuary states have made it easier for illegal aliens to get ID.
