The U.S. gives the UN about $6.3 billion a year, but as Congress struggles to cut spending and reduce the deficit, should the U.S. cut its funding to the UN?
The UN is more useful than most Americans think it is, but I wouldn't have a problem threatening them with a budget cut or encouraging them to move to another country.
Thomas Sowell: There are no solutions, just trade-offs.
Can you give any examples of their so-called usefulness?
IMO they are funded by us and are filled with countries who use that platform to do nothing but attack us. They waste our money. We are the largest contributor to everything and get nothing in return.
Do you remember the Oil for Food Program with Iraq? The head of the U.N. at the time was Kofi Annan and his own son stole Billions of dollars from that. They are corrupt IMO.
The United States currently contributes 25 percent of the United Nations'
two-year regular budget; it also generally contributes an additional amount
equal to 30 percent of UN peacekeeping costs. No other country contributes
nearly as much of the UN budget as does the United States. Japan contributes
12.5 percent; Russia contributes 9.4 percent; Germany contributes
8.9 percent; France contributes 6 percent; 10 other countries contribute
from 5 percent to 1.1 percent of the two-year budget. All other member
states contribute less than 1 percent each. Indeed, nearly half of the United
Nations' members make only the minimum contribution—0.01 percent
of the two-year budget.
And alot of those countries complain about having to come to the US to be at the UN. So, lets kick them out of the US, let them go to another country, and see how long it takes before all hell breaks loose. They get away with alot here in the US, bet it would not happen in another country.
The UN is rife with corruption. We should have kicked their asses out of our country years ago. If countries want a venue to complain about the United States, they should find one that isn't funded and hosted by the United States.
