Whenever politicians have pushed too far in either direction a backlash has followed.....both parties do it, and both seem surprised when they lose in the next election cycle. Most Americans just want their politicians to manage the business of running the country (admittedly more prudently than they have in the past). The sniping, and posturing and "it's my way or the highway" turns voters off. Democrats saw this with the last election, and if Republicans follow their recent course of refusing to compromise they will probably face similar repercussions in 2012.
